Answer 9 quick questionsAbout
The "Promotion of Polylining Technology for Intensive Shrimp Farming" refers to The government of Odisha's initiative or program aimed at promoting the adoption and use of polylining technology in the intensive shrimp farming sector. Polylining technology involves the use of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or other similar materials to line the ponds used for shrimp farming. The objective of this initiative is:
To develop eco-friendly sustainable aquaculture systems. To maximize the profits of farmers by preventing disease outbreaks, water seepage, quick turn-around time between two crops, etc. To build up systems providing an equitable cost/ benefit ratio to support economic and social sustainability. Scheme Outlay & Subsidy: The total outlay under the said program is ₹ 3.90,00,00,000The Unit cost for the installation of a polylining unit is ₹ 2.10,00,000 with 40% subsidy assistance to the General and 60% assistance to SC/ ST/ woman beneficiaries. Subsidy support is only infrastructure costs and doesn't include any operational costs.
Benefits
- Water Conservation: The use of polylining technology reduces the need for frequent water exchange in shrimp ponds, leading to significant water conservation. This is particularly important in regions where water resources are limited or where the cost of freshwater is high.
- Better Water Quality Management: The polylining material acts as a barrier that prevents seepage of water from the pond, ensuring better control over water quality parameters such as salinity, dissolved oxygen, and pH. It helps in maintaining a more stable and favorable environment for shrimp growth.
- Disease Prevention: Polylining technology can contribute to better biosecurity practices by minimizing the risk of contamination from external sources. It reduces the chances of introducing pathogens, predators, or unwanted organisms into the shrimp ponds, thereby improving disease prevention and management.
- Increased Productivity: Improved water quality management and disease prevention can result in higher survival rates and faster growth of shrimp, leading to increased productivity and profitability for shrimp farmers.
- Environmental Sustainability: By reducing water exchange and minimizing the impact on natural water resources, polylining technology promotes sustainable shrimp farming practices. It helps in minimizing the discharge of effluents and reduce the potential negative environmental impacts associated with traditional shrimp farming methods.
Who can apply
